As I anticipated, August was considerably slower for reading than June & July had been. Oh well. Any reading is good reading, I suppose. This month, I read:
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett
The Romanovs: The Final Chapter by Robert K. Massie
The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews
The Legacy by Katherine Webb
Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh
The Gaiman/Pratchett book was our book club selection and I really wanted to love it. I was such a huge fan of American Gods and Stardust. Tracy hypothesized that the problem was that I didn't like Pratchett's style of writing. It's possible. I did finish the book and I liked it much better by the end and I enjoyed some of the specific characters, but I don't think I really loved the book as a whole.
The Massie book was really interesting. I've always had a fascination with the Russian Imperial family and this book was well done. It made me want to watch the animated film Anastasia which, of course, is really, really untrue. Haha.
I think my September book roundup will be up in very little time. Keep a look out, friends.

Are Limes The Fashion Now?
Well, what a week.
On Thursday, I had a meeting for work and it was pretty depressing. Blah. Thankfully, I had plans to hang out with my friend Faith in the evening, so I had something to look forward to. I went over to her apartment after work and we ordered pizza and breadsticks and put Little Women in the DVD player. What a great movie. What a wonderful book. Don't you love it? Faith and I had a good time together (though, to be honest, we talked over most of the movie). Haha.
I am actually reading a pretty great book right now about the author of Little Women, Louisa May Alcott, and her mother, Abigail. I am very intrigued. It focuses on the relationship between Louisa and her mother. The author, who is related to Abigail's family, provides some really interesting insight into life in the Alcott household. Everything I've ever read about Louisa's family life mentioned that her father, Bronson Alcott, was one of her biggest influences. I don't think that is necessarily true. I'm not finished with the book yet so all of this probably doesn't make any sense, I know. What I'm trying to say is: this book is good and I like it.
Okay... this post hasn't been the best. Thanks for reading it, though. I like knowing that there is someone out there that sees my writing in my small corner of the great, wide internet.

Weekend Update
This has been a pretty good weekend.
On Saturday, Boyfriend and I spent the morning running some errands and, in the afternoon, we had a few friends over to watch the Penguins game. I made white chicken chili and vanilla cupcakes (colored pink for Valentine's Day, naturally, with white frosting and red sprinkles). In the evening, Boyfriend and I decided to watch Season of the Witch. You know, because Nic Cage is the finest actor of our time. We knew this would be a classic film experience. We made it only forty minutes before we had to stop. Oh boy. Ohhhh boy. I'm amazed we made it that far. If you watch it, please take special notice of Nic's beautiful fake laughing in a bar scene. GLORIOUS.
Today, I attended a meeting of my Kappa Delta Alumnae Association. We usually meet at a Panera location and today was no different. There were nine of us at the meeting, and I enjoyed it. It's nice to connect with sisters here in the Pittsburgh area. It reminds me of the wonderful times I had at Albion College with my sisters in the Sigma Pi chapter. *sigh* Ah, memories. Here is a picture of me and some of my KD sisters (and closest friends) at Albion's homecoming in 2010:
I was fortunate enough to have a phone conversation with one of these fine ladies, Megan, this evening. It was nice to catch up and hear how her wedding plans are coming along.
Here's hoping everyone has a good week! Is anyone doing anything special for Valentine's Day?

Christmas Cinema
Well, friends, it's that time of year. You know, the time of year when the cheesiest Christmas themed romantic comedies are on TV and Netflix. Today, while working on some Christmas sewing projects (my craftiness amazes even me... I'll post about what I have been making when everyone has received their gifts), I watched two such movies.
First, I watched A Christmas Kiss. It... was special. I couldn't get over the age difference between the main character and her love interest. Also, the dialogue was sooooo overly formal. It was entertaining (if you're into movies with wise, old janitors), though, because it was really ridiculous.
Next, I watched 12 Dates of Christmas. I knew I would love it because it featured Mark Paul Gosselaar aka ZACK MORRIS. I wasn't 100% sure how much I would like it beyond that, but it was actually pretty cute. I liked Amy Smart's character as well. You should probably watch this one. It doesn't feature any wise, old janitors, though. Just thought I would warn you.
Moral of the story: when I was finished watching these movies, I was really happy. It was nice to be home, working on crafty things and thinking about Christmas. It reminded me of how lucky I am to have such wonderful people in my life. Random, perhaps, but true.
Also, I'm watching the episode of Parks & Rec in which April and Andy host a fancy dinner party (I don't want to spoil it if you haven't seen it). So wonderful.
Happy Monday!

Joan v. Bette
On Saturday night, Boyfriend and I started watching What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? because it came on TCM and, before we could change the channel, we were hooked. We didn't watch it all in one sitting, but finished it last night. Oh man. Ohhhh man. I don't think I would have chosen to watch it if I had seen it in the listing because Tivo classified it as a horror movie and those are typically not my thing. It wasn't so much a horror movie, though, in my opinion. It was really more of a thriller, though mainly psychological. Maybe? I can't decide. Anyway, Bette Davis was awesome in this. I had only ever seen her in one other movie (The Catered Affair) and I liked that a lot, but this was totally different.
I don't want to give any of the plot away, of course, but I will tell you this: Joan Crawford and Bette Davis play two sisters. Joan's character is in a wheelchair and Bette has to take care of her. Joan and Bette hated each other in real life, which I think really adds something to the dynamic between the two in the film. You should probably watch it.
